The Lord of the Rings: Gollum releases May 25 – Games – News

I have very mixed feelings about this game. Gollum/Smeagol is one of my favorite characters from the LotR series, so I’m really looking forward to this game in that regard. But now I see howbadThis game looks (especially when you take into consideration that it has been delayed so many times, the original release date was 1 Sep 22), I’m a little disappointed.

I get that this is a test shot, but here are a few that popped into my mind, along with video timestamps:

There isn’t much life in Gollum; The facial expressions don’t show much emotion, and with the exception of the eyebrows, they’re fairly static, and I think the transitions are pretty jerky. 7:35

Other animations, such as jumping (6:10 and 6:40) I find it very “unnatural”, for lack of a better word. He jumps, but that’s it. As in, the jump looks rather bland, and the rest of the jump is just Gollum falling, and you don’t see him getting ready to land. If that makes sense.

on 6:10 Seeing a strange shimmer in the reflections, reminds me of that Flickering in Cyberpunk2077 with dlss and bloom on. Of course I don’t know if this is the same thing. You can also see raindrops falling when the camera looks up through the hole. Animation in the air only in the air.

2:35 p.m (here too she stutters) I find Gollum’s movement very bland and “ugly”. Crawling/walking seems slow and heavy from what I see now, while Gollum is a small and agile creature. Especially when it rotates on its axis while walking, its body seems to move differently than it should in relation to its position on the ground. Also, when you stop walking, the animation seems to be canceled halfway through and his limbs seem to snap idle, with no transition.

on 7:55 p.m Gollum throws a rock at a guard, who reacts very leniently and the stone literally floats in the air after the guard turns and walks away.

On top of that, I thought I’d seen streaky, blinking light sources a few times during the shots, especially in cinema, anyway.

Aside from all this, I think the textures, lighting, reflections, and ambient shadows/occlusion look good. Although I missed AO on the ground with a few things.

I hope this doesn’t come across as too much of a nitpick, but I still wanted to give my opinion, because I’m still really looking forward to this game and I think/hope they can improve the game before release.
