When he saw a mother duck with her cubs struggling at a busy intersection in California, the American dad didn’t hesitate to jump out of his car and help the animals cross the road. But seconds later, he was hit by a car in front of his children and died instantly. “It was a scene of pure joy and happiness at first that ended with the worst possible outcome.”

When the man led the ducklings to safer places, all the other road users stopped and watched him perform his “heroic deed”. But then the drama kicked in at the busy intersection in Rocklin, just north of Sacramento.

Seconds later, the man himself was hit by a car while his children were waiting in the car for their father to return. Unfortunately, the man, whose identity has not been revealed, did not help. The blow was very violent, and he died instantly.

The police said that the driver of the car that hit the man, a 17-year-old girl, stopped immediately after the terrible accident and cooperated with the investigation.

Several families witnessed the accident on Thursday night after witnessing for the first time the last act of kindness from this dear father. “It was a spectacle of pure joy and happiness at first and ended with the worst possible outcome,” said journalist Michele Pandor of local news channel KRCA.

All lights are green

William Wimsat witnessed the tragedy with his mother. He explained to “KRCA” that all motorists were standing at the intersection while the lights were green. “The guy got out of the car and helped the ducks on their way and everyone clapped their hands because he was so cute.” Then he helped the mother duck and her offspring onto the sidewalk and then walked past William and his mother’s car.

It was William who took some pictures of the loving scene. “My mom rolled out the window and said, ‘Well done, well done’ and I said ‘Well done’ to him too.”

shoes and socks

Seconds after the family thanked the man, he was hit by the car, which William said appeared to have come out of nowhere. I didn’t see the car hit him. I only remember the noise of the crash and its flight over the intersection. His shoes and one of his socks ended up in front of our car.”

William wants people to remember the good man who saved the ducks before he died. “He was the only person who got out of the car and tried to help them and he was probably the nicest person in the whole area. Not fair.”
