The Dutch embassy in Moscow warned Dutch people in the Russian capital and other major Russian cities of possible attacks this weekend. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed NU.nl about this upon request.
This warning comes after a similar warning from the US Embassy. The British, Belgians and other EU member states also warned people.
The Dutch embassy told Dutch citizens in Russia to “Avoid places where a lot of people gather in the coming days (e.g. crowded shopping centres, concerts, etc.). Be vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities.”
The US Embassy in Moscow said it was monitoring reports that extremists were planning to target large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts. The embassy said: “American citizens should avoid large gatherings for the next 48 hours.”
This warning came after a message from the Russian Security Service. He said that he thwarted a shooting attack in a Jewish synagogue by a cell affiliated with the Afghan branch of ISIS.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman cannot say how many Dutch people are currently in Russia, because the ministry is not following up on the matter. It is also unknown how many Dutch people are currently in Moscow.
