The Grand Prix of the United States will take place this weekend in Austin. The location in Texas has been the host of the US Grand Prix since 2012, thus the successor to Indianapolis. However, for European spectators, the race weekend in the United States means you have to stay up late. Find out what sessions start in Austin here.
Winners in the United States
In 2012, the US GB returned to the Formula 1 calendar after a four-year absence. The Circuit of the Americas was an instant success, with Louis Hamilton being the first winner of the circuit. He thus continued his winning streak in the United States. He also won the US GB title in 2007.
In the years to come, it will turn out that there is no Fluke. Sebastian Vettel won for Red Bull Racing in 2013, after which Hamilton won four times in a row. Then Ferrari got a win with Kimi Raikkonen and Voltaire was able to get the win too. Finn was the last winner because in 2020 the race was not held due to the corona virus.
Hamilton vs. Verstappen
In 2021, Hamilton is the favorite to extend his record number to seven in the United States, but he has faced opposition from Max Verstappen this season. The Dutchman finally has a car on the Red Bull, with which he can compete, which means he is now number one in the championship.
As mentioned, the Grand Prix in Austin was a late night for European visitors. The qualifying round is Saturday at 23:00 only, so it will end at midnight. Betting a little earlier: 21:00
