More than half a century after The Beatles broke up, a new song has been released. Now and later “It will be the Beatles’ last song,” said the surviving band members.
The issue will be released on November 2 at 3:00 PM Netherlands time Band website Announce.
The song was written and sung in 1978 by John Lennon, who was shot in 1980. George Harrison, who died in 2001, also contributed to the song.
The band’s surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, have now completed the track. Earlier this year, it was announced that McCartney had gone into the studio to finish an old Beatles demo.
Now and later It was released on vinyl with the Beatles’ first single, Love me I do from 1962. In an accompanying video, McCartney and Starr, among others, but also Lennon’s son Sean, talk about how the song came about.
In the 1990s, two other old John Lennon recordings were actually used for two new Beatles songs (Free as a bird And true love), as part of it Beatles Anthologyproject. This time, artificial intelligence was used to remove tape hiss and other sounds, without affecting Lennon’s voice.
“Surreal experience”
In a press release, McCartney and Starr said finishing the recordings was a “surreal experience.” “There was a very clear John voice,” McCartney says. “It’s very emotional. And we’re all playing together, it’s a real Beatles record. To continue working on Beatles music in 2023 and release a new song that the public hasn’t heard yet, that’s exciting for me.”
Ringo Starr agreed in the press release, saying, “This was the closest we’ll ever get to having him with us again, so it was very emotional for all of us.” “It was like John was there again. It was unbelievable.”
A short documentary about the Beatles’ latest single will be released on the band’s YouTube channel on November 1.
