The average number of coronavirus cases is declining again | the interior

The National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 13,400 reports of positive tests between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. This is slightly higher than the previous days, but significantly lower than last Thursday. In that time, more than 16,000 infections have been confirmed.

Lowest number of new cases since November 12

In the past seven days, RIVM has recorded 91,728 new cases. This is the lowest level since November 12, more than a month ago. On average, this amounts to 13,104 positive tests per day. This average falls for the eighteenth consecutive day.

Amsterdam counted last day 752 new cases, Rotterdam 597 and The Hague 398. It is followed by Eindhoven (295), Utrecht (277), Haarlem (212) and Almere (208). No positive case appeared in four municipalities.

RIVM received a message last day that 40 people have died as a result of infection with the Coronavirus. For Thursday, that’s the lowest number in about a month. Among the dead were seven residents of Rotterdam and six people from Riden in Gelderland. Just because they have been reported dead now doesn’t mean they died in the last day.

In the past seven days, 313 deaths were recorded, with an average of 45 deaths per day. This is the lowest level since November 25.

2,221 more corona patients in Dutch hospitals

The number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals has decreased further in the past 24 hours. Currently, 2,221 people with Covid-19 still occupy a hospital bed, according to the latest figures from the National Coordination Center for Patient Proliferation (LCPS). That is 34 less than wednesday.

Nursing care staff are currently treating 1,657 coronavirus patients, seventeen fewer than on Wednesday. And the clinics entered 162 new patients with Corona, but due to the departure of more wards, the occupation fell.

The daily number of new admissions of Corona patients has decreased for some time. By comparison: About two weeks ago, between 200 and 350 new people with Covid-19 were admitted to the nursing ward every day.

And on Thursday, 564 patients with corona will be in intensive care, a decrease of 17 patients compared to 24 hours ago. 25 new people have been admitted to intensive care units with Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Because more people died or were allowed to leave the departments, the occupation fell.

The omikron variant of the virus could alter hospital occupancy declines. “We are closely monitoring the effect of the omikron variant on infection rates,” the LCPS said. “The implications of this for hospital numbers remain unclear, but the influx of new patients is expected to increase again in January 2022.”

There are currently 19 Dutch corona patients in German hospitals.

In order to distribute the pressure on hospitals as much as possible, Corona patients can be divided into different areas. On Wednesday, seven people were transferred to another region and another person was transferred to Germany.
