Suriname Police officially announced on Tuesday that 41-year-old Andy Grantsan (Scottish) was burned alive on Saturday 25 December after being doused with petrol. The Suriname Police Force reported that after learning of the information obtained, the victim’s partner, Sandy H. , 41, as a suspect.

The preliminary investigation of the police revealed that the man was sitting on the balcony of his house in the Bara district on that very day when the case occurred. His 41-year-old wife was not found when Para police arrived at the home address.

With grade III injuries all over the body, the victim was taken to the emergency department of Paramaribo Academic Hospital. He was taken to the hospital for nursing, but died in the hospital on the eve of the same day.

The investigation in this case was handed over to the detectives of the Major Crimes Department. After working on the information obtained, partner Sandy was shown as a suspect. She was tracked down and arrested on the afternoon of Sunday 26 December at a residential address in Paramaribo.

At the time of her arrest, she denied committing the crime. Sandy told the police that the man committed the crime himself. It should be noted that the balcony on which the man sat was burned.

Andy’s lifeless body was seized for autopsy by order of the Suriname Public Prosecution Service (OM), while Sandy was taken into custody for the investigation.
