Taiwan condemns new Chinese military exercises | Abroad

Taiwan indicated to China that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is the responsibility of the two countries. Taiwan has condemned China for conducting military exercises in the region on Monday morning.

Taiwan’s defense ministry said it spotted 57 Chinese fighter jets during the exercise, the second in a month. China says the exercises were to prepare for “provocative actions by outside forces and separatist forces in Taiwan”.

China regards Taiwan as a breakaway region that should eventually return to the authority of the People’s Republic. In 2022, relations deteriorate as China conducts large-scale military exercises near the island in protest of the visit of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, in August.

President Tsai Ing-wen’s office said Monday that “Taiwan’s position is clear.” “We will not fuel conflict or create friction, but we will resolutely defend our independence and security,” he added.
