In connection with the celebrations around the forty-sixth anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Suriname, a security zone will be established around Kerkplein, Independence Square and the surrounding area. This area is closed to the public during official activities. No one is allowed to enter except for those who are invited and those who are specially registered. It is also not allowed to be in the area without permission.
The complete closure due to national holidays will end before November 25, 2021. Partial closure and curfew from 11 pm to 5 am will remain in effect! The recreation area known as Waka Pasi and its extension, Van Roseveltkade, are in the designated safety zone on that day and will therefore be closed to local traffic on November 24, 2021 from 6pm.
The entrance gates to Palmmentuin will be closed to the public from November 24, 2021, from 6pm until November 25, 2021, at 2pm. The security zone will be lifted on November 25 from 2 pm and the zone will open to the public. The North East Paramaribo Commission is appealing to everyone to commemorate Srefidensi as much as possible in a safe home environment.
