Israel responded angrily to the statements made by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, during their visit today to the Rafah border crossing. The two Prime Ministers made it clear that they strongly support a permanent ceasefire.

He added: “A one-day ceasefire is good. A five-day ceasefire is the best.” “A structural ceasefire is the goal,” De Croo said during a press conference. Sanchez specifically called on Israel to stop “the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians.” “Including thousands of boys and girls,” he described this as “completely unacceptable.”

Eli Cohen, the Israeli Foreign Minister, accused Sanchez and De Croo of making “false allegations” that would “give an impetus to terrorism.” He also summoned the ambassadors of Spain and Belgium. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also intervened, saying that the two European leaders had failed to shed light on what he described as “crimes against humanity” committed by Hamas.

In response to the Israeli accusations, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez said that they were “incorrect and unacceptable.” He also summoned the Israeli ambassador to Madrid to clarify this.
