“While waiting lists are growing and the average wait time is 14 years, we are taking matters into our own hands and getting this home back,” read a letter from the activists. “While housing associations say they are building more social rent homes from sales proceeds, the overall share of social rent homes in Amsterdam is decreasing. Now that private rents are no longer affordable, this creates a city just for the wealthy.”

The house is still owned by the Lieven De Key housing company and was due for sale a year ago. The building, which dates back to 1933, has an area of ​​66 square metres.
