According to sources from 9to5Google, Google Pixel 6 Pro will still get face unlock feature. The Pixel 6 won’t get that, despite having the same camera hardware up front.

Site Reports That the development is not entirely surprising, given that promotional materials have already appeared that the phone will have the functionality. The feature was supposed to work before the phones were launched, so the reason for removing it is unclear. Face unlock It may be coming to the Pixel 6 Pro in the next major quarterly update, say the site’s sources.

The Pixel 6 is just as capable on paper as the Pixel 6 Pro for face unlock. The Pro has an 11.1MP camera with a very large field of view on the front, while the regular Pixel 6 has an 8MP camera with a smaller field of view. Both models do not have additional hardware on the front to facilitate better facial recognition. For example, the Pixel 4 used the Soli radar for this.

So far, the only form of biometric authentication supported by the Pixel 6 series is the in-display fingerprint scanner. It is not uncommon for smartphones in the Pixel 6 series price range to support face unlock. This includes Galaxy S devices, iPhones, and phones from OnePlus and OPPO.
