Ookla: Average global download speed for 5G networks is 203.04 Mbps – Tablets & Phones – News

Ookla reports that the average global 5G download speed was 203.04 Mbps last quarter. According to the Internet speed test, this is twenty percent higher than during the same period last year. At that time, the global average was 168.7 Mbps.

The company also listed the 10 countries where the average 5G download speed was the highest. The list shows that the UAE tops the list with an average of 592.01 Mbps, followed by South Korea with an average of 507.59 Mbps. The rest of the top ten are completed by Malaysia, Qatar, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Kuwait, Macau, Singapore and India.

Ookla also notes that several Asian countries made the list. According to the company, this is because local governments of those countries have often taken supportive measures regarding 5G and some spectrum was already available in those regions. The internet speed test also notes that 5G has yet to achieve the “promised gigabit speeds” worldwide. According to Ookla, this is because the majority of 5G networks still rely on 4G core infrastructure.
