OBS gains support for AV1 encoding on AMD RX 7000 and Intel Arc GPUs – PC – News

Open Broadcaster adds support for AV1 encoders in AMD Radeon RX 7000 and Intel Arc GPUs. This allows users to use the codec to record computer images. AV1 support was added to Nvidia’s RTX 40 series late last year.

AV1 video codec support for the latest Intel and AMD GPUs It was added in OBS Studio version 29.0. AV1 is currently only supported in the Windows version of OBS Studio; The Linux version can’t handle the codec yet. Currently, AV1 is suitable mainly for recording photos, since services such as YouTube and Twitch do not yet support the codec.

The AV1 video codec is currently only supported by AMD Radeon RX 7000 series based on RDNA3 architecture, Intel Arc Alchemist graphics cards and Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series. The latter already received in November last year AV1 support on OBS Studio. Some previous AMD, Intel, and Nvidia GPUs already supported AV1 image decoding.

OBS Studio 29.0 also adds support for the Intel HEVC encoder, also in the Windows version only. The program is also getting a number of other new features, including some new audio filters and several bug fixes.
