The number of people infected with Covid-19 in hospitals is increasing rapidly in recent days. A week ago, there were less than 700 coronavirus patients in intensive care units and nursing wards. At the beginning of October, hospitals were still treating just over 400 Covid patients. So in four weeks, overall, about 600 have been added.

Nursing units are currently treating 804 people with Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. That’s 63 over 24 hours ago. 149 new corona patients have been admitted to nursing wards. Over the past four days, more than 100 new people with Covid-19 have been added to nursing wards every day.

The number of corona patients in intensive care units increased from 14 to 217. 26 new corona patients were admitted to IC, but because people also died or were transferred to the nursing ward, the total occupancy increased less quickly.

In total, 175 new people with severe Covid complaints were admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours. This is the largest number of new admissions in a single day since May 19.

Cabinet was briefed on the latest advice from the outbreak management team, which met on Thursday. A written version of that advice is expected on Monday. All kinds of measures have been discussed in Catshuis, but the Cabinet first wants to see what the various parties in the House of Representatives think about it.

A meeting with the heads of the Security Council will be followed on Monday. The relevant ministers will meet one last time on Tuesday to make decisions. In the evening, the press conference will be followed by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Coronavirus Minister Hugo de Jonge.
