Looking back: What did Maxima do and wear in America?

Last week, from September 6 to 9, Queen Máxima visited the United States on economic relations. Queen Elizabeth died at the age of 96 during her visit. As a result, news of Maxima’s solo trip has been somewhat frosty. King Willem-Alexander was originally to accompany, but was forced to cancel due to pneumonia. We look back on the program and fashion.

Queen Máxima begins her tour on Tuesday with a visit to San Francisco City Hall. There the Mayor of London raises the Dutch flag together with Breit. The day continues in the Castro neighborhood. There are many people living here who ensure equal rights for LGBTI people. The Queen makes more time for them and sends greetings to the company from King Willem-Alexander.

In the afternoon, Máxima will sign a document to tackle climate change. After this, he expressed a desire for greater cooperation between the Netherlands and California.

On Tuesday evening, Máxima will again address the town hall. Here he says he admires the Californian mentality: “Don’t wait for circumstances to force you into action, but rather take matters into your own hands.” It may seem dangerous at first, but in the end it makes you stronger, says Rani.

Maxima wore a gold dress by designer Glaze Iverson on Tuesday evening. We’ve seen this outfit several times: at the Holland Festival in 2019 and on her 49th birthday in 2020.

On Wednesday, Queen Maxima begins her day at the University of California, Berkeley. Prince Friso and Princess Laurentian studied at this university. The school offers Dutch language courses. Maxima spoke to students and faculty about the study. After that, visited the famous Golden Gate Bridge for some time. The program continues with a visit to Google focused on the theme ‘Future Challenges’.

At a Dutch school in Silicon Valley, the Queen receives gifts from children. He received many maps, cards and a chocolate tulip. Maxima says she’s “feasting” in the latter present. Queen also wanted to know how the children were enjoying life in California. “I think it’s too much sun and too hot,” she assessed.


Queen Máxima again opted for a country outfit on the second day of her visit. We’ve seen the creation twice before when she paired it with a big hat. The first time was during a regional visit to Salland. Almost a year later, during the Four Freedom Awards in Middleburg, the dress reappeared.

After spending two days in California, Maxima flies to Texas. A meeting with Governor Greg Abbott is on the agenda there. Maxima gets a pair of cowboy boots from him. Rani was visibly excited and said her first pair of heels were also cowboy boots.

Visits to Austin City Hall continue Thursday. Maxima joins Mayor Steve Adler on his way across the Colorado River to the next destination: a library.


Natan had previously worn the dress when Maxima visited Germany in 2021.

In the evening, the Queen, dressed in a new outfit, visits the stadium of football club Austin FC. There he was updated on Dutch lamps that allow grass to grow and constant cooling. Subsequently, the Queen attended the cooperation agreement between Austin FC and Eindhoven Club PSV.

Queen Máxima will conclude her mission on Friday in Houston. At the town hall, she is met by Dutch children dressed in orange, just like the queen.

During a boat trip on Buffalo Bayou, Maxima learns all about the measures Houston has taken to prevent flooding. After this, the Queen visits a medical center that focuses on innovative treatments against cancer. Maxima talks to the children who are being treated for illness there.



In Friday’s first episode, Queen Máxima wore an orange Nathan dress. He first wore the design during a regional visit to Southeast Friesland in 2020. A year later, in the summer of 2021, we saw the dress again when Máxima opened a Burke in Amsterdam.

The visit to America finally ends with a reception at the Museum of Fine Arts. Maxima gives another speech here under the supervision of the Dutch and American institutions in Texas.

Later, Queen Máxima told the Dutch press that the abortion law had been well debated. He expressed his support for the agency to conservative Gov. Greg Abbott. Maxima says to Texan women as she says to other women: “Women must take their chances,” and they must earn the right to freedom of choice.


Maxima wears Cheren’s floral jumpsuit on the last leg of her journey. We have already seen this outfit of Rani many times. He wore the pantsuit on King’s Day in 2020 and during the Special Olympics in The Hague in 2021.
