Last Monday, Fernando Gomez Acebo was admitted to a hospital in Madrid because he was suffering from chronic breathing problems. During the pandemic, Fernando contracted Corona, and since then his breathing problems have worsened. On Friday evening, news emerged that King Felipe’s cousin had died as a result. Fernando Gomez Acebo was only 49 years old. He was the youngest son of Infanta Pilar, and was the sister of King Juan Carlos.

Farewell Fernando Gomez Acebo
Fernando was transferred on Saturday to a morgue in Madrid. Family members and friends were able to bid him farewell there. King Felipe and Queen Letizia paid their last respects on Saturday evening. Queen Sofia and her sister Princess Irene also showed their support. The funeral was held privately on Sunday. King Felipe appeared without Queen Letizia at the funeral in Madrid.
