Josef Fritzl, the Austrian who held his daughter captive for 24 years and raped her, will be released early. His lawyer had requested early release.
Fritzl, 88, was eligible for parole because he had already served fifteen years.
His lawyer also ordered him to undergo a new psychological examination. This would show that he is no longer dangerous. He is also said to be suffering from dementia. According to the lawyer, Fritzl has the right to “a decent living.” Therefore, it would be better for her client to remain in a nursing home rather than remain in prison.
Elizabeth, who had been abused by her father since she was eleven, was lured into the cellar beneath the house when she was eighteen. Fritzl held her there for 24 years. In 2008, he was exposed because his daughter was able to contact the police.
During the mentioned period he had seven children with Elizabeth. Fritzl insisted to those around him that his daughter had run away from home to join a religious sect.
Fritzl has been in a psychiatric center in a maximum security prison since 2009. He is serving a life sentence there. He got this not only for pressuring and raping his daughter, but also for his role in the death of one of Elizabeth’s seven children.
Elizabeth and her six living children assumed a different identity.
