I happened to be assembling a new computer for my parents a few weeks ago, and their old machine (actually my old system) was starting to get pretty old and showing some signs of malfunctioning.
They don’t use it as a home/media server, but as a “normal” workplace. Some simple (old-fashioned) gaming, browsing, email, Facebook, video chat, you know the drill. nothing special.
I didn’t want integrated graphics (I’ve had bad experiences with them in the past), and my choice eventually fell on the “ASRock Intel Arc A380 Challenger ITX”, costing €148.
I have to say I was positively surprised by the card. Very quiet, does what it’s supposed to do and works well in simple games. The drivers are stable and actually have a fair number of modification options. Low power was also an important requirement due to electricity costs.
Haven’t encountered any problems yet.
For beginners and mid-level, I think Intel would actually recommend the Arc cards. It’s a bit light for the high end, but that’s not what Intel is focusing on, and at the price of course you can’t realistically expect that.
