New passenger car registrations in the Netherlands will increase by 19 percent in 2023 to reach 369,791 registered vehicles. Industry organizations BOVAG, RAI Association and data specialist RDC reported this on Monday.
Therefore, expectations of 340,000 registrations were more than met.
The strong growth was mainly due to catching up on delayed delivery dates in 2022. Strong increases were evident, especially in the first months of the year. The market returned to normal towards the end of the year, say BOVAG and the RAI association.
The total registrations were distributed among diesel by 1.1%, gasoline by 30.4%, hybrid by 37.1%, and electric by 30.8%.
The most registered brand in 2023 was Volkswagen (with a market share of 9.5 percent), followed by Kia, Toyota, BMW and Skoda. The best-selling model was the Tesla Model Y. It was followed by the Kia Picanto, Peugeot 208, Volvo XC40 and Kia Niro.
BOVAG and the RAI Association expect 360,000 registrations by 2024. According to the organizations, it is still uncertain to what extent incentives and subsidies will influence the demand and purchase of electric vehicles among private buyers and companies.
Moreover, economic developments, such as increasing interest rates and rising wage costs, play an important role.
