Just eight months of making music in your student room and already having a global hit; Casso succeeded. The British producer took on D-Block Europe and RAYE’s song and made it the most streamed song in the Netherlands thanks to TikTok.
Het was eigenlijk helemaal niet de bedoeling dat de hele wereld Prada zou horen, of dat de creatie van Cassö überhaupt die titel zou dragen. De twintigjarige dj, over wie online nog maar weinig informatie is te vinden, begint eind 2022 in zijn studentenkamer in Swansea wat te rommelen met het produceren van muziek.
Hij ontdekt het in 2020 verschenen nummer Ferrari Horses van hiphopgroep D-Block Europe en de Britse zangeres RAYE. “RAYE’s stem sprong er meteen uit voor me”, vertelt Cassö. “Ik wist meteen dat haar aandeel in het nummer perfect zou zijn voor de drop van een trancenummer.” De dj ging aan de slag met een “euforische ontknoping” en “agressieve bassline” om de vocalen van RAYE nog meer kracht bij te zetten, zo beschrijft hij zijn proces.
Cassö knutselt zijn versie van het nummer, waarin het tempo flink verhoogd is, in elkaar op zijn laptop van de universiteit. Hij deelt het resultaat in mei op het platform SoundCloud. Hij wil zijn creatie vooral gebruiken voor huisfeestjes op de campus, tot dan toe de enige omgeving waarin hij zijn dj-skills laat horen.
TikTok was already going wild before Prada was officially released
Remix for Ferrari horses Soon he was no longer staying within the campus walls. TikTok users discover the song on SoundCloud and work on it. Tens of thousands of videos are created with Cassö’s beats in the background.
It ensures that the remix becomes the most streamed song on SoundCloud in both the UK and the US. Cassö realizes that it has a huge hit and will officially release it on all major streaming services in August. The remix is then given a title Prada for along way.
Prada It was at the top of the list of most streamed songs on Spotify in the Netherlands for several days. The No. 1 spot in the Singles Top 100 has also been achieved, and Cassö, RAYE and D-Block Europe are currently ranked No. 4 in the Netherlands Top 40. The song has been listened to nearly 85 million times on Spotify worldwide, with over 2 million streams added daily.
