I don’t know if it has been 15 years, but with the group of friends we also use “Iriun” for a long time.
How it works.
You install Iriun (and other similar apps) on your computer and on your phone, then launch both and see all the “Iriun” devices on the network with their own ID. You choose on the computer or on the phone you connect together and activate. You now have a microphone and camera in Windows that you can use. You can do this once, and from then on you just have to launch your app on your phone when you want to use the camera in Windows.
An added advantage is that this way you don’t have to use the less good camera on the front of your mobile, but can use the good camera on the back.
Another advantage is that the microphone and camera are separate in Windows and they simply appear as an additional camera/microphone in the devices list. So you can always choose which microphones or cameras to use if you have more than one. You are not associated with the Iriun app for this part.
What I also noticed is that even a budget phone’s camera + mic is better at speed than many low- and mid-range consumer webcams/USB mics.
Very easy to use, the only drawback is that it is not fun to charge the battery and that you have to store the phone in a place where you can sit comfortably in front of it. Eventually, I built a simple wooden tripod myself and always put the phone on the charger.
I’ve always thought it was special that this was never a standard Android function or at least a standard function for smartphone manufacturers because it’s actually an easy function to create.
