eShop can no longer be purchased on Wii U and 3DS as of March 27, 2023 – Games – News

From March 27, 2023, it will no longer be possible to purchase games through the eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. It was already known that Nintendo would do it, but no specific date has been mentioned yet.

Nintendo Recommends to Customers To use their credit on older eShops before March 27, 2023, in case they continue planning to purchase Wii U and digital 3DS games. After that, it is no longer possible to make purchases or download free content. Therefore, it is no longer possible to make purchases via StreetPass Mii Plaza, Dedicated Store, and Nintendo Badge Arcade. Nintendo said it will still be possible to re-download games and downloadable content, receive software updates and play online on the Wii U and 3DS.

Additional services have already been closed earlier. For example, from May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add money to the account on legacy platforms. Also, effective August 29, 2022, customers will not be able to top up their Wii U and 3DS eShop with a credit card.

Although it will not be possible to top up from the end of August, users can still redeem download codes that are valid before the end of March 2023 for games and DLC. Additionally, users can combine their Nintendo Network ID balance, which is for the Wii U and 3DS eShop, with the balance associated with their Nintendo account, which is used in the eShop on the Switch. This shared credit can be used to purchase games on Switch, 3DS, and Wii U until March 27, 2023. After that, it can only be spent at the eShop on Switch.
