A soldier was killed in a lightning strike on a military base in the US state of Georgia. Nine other soldiers were wounded and taken to hospital.

The fatal accident occurred yesterday afternoon during a training session at the Fort Gordon military base near the city of Augusta. At that time, severe storms swept the region.

Firefighters and an ambulance rushed to the scene after the lightning and provided first aid. For one of the victims, that help came too late.

A spokesman for the military base told US media, “It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that one of the soldiers who was injured in the thunderbolt died from his injuries.”

The patient’s condition is not known. It is not yet clear whether the lightning directly hit all the victims.
