DPG Media plans to acquire RTL Netherlands. The two companies have reached an agreement under which RTL will retain its name. ACM’s regulatory approval for the €1.1 billion acquisition still needs to be received.

“RTL and Videoland are two successful local brands with great programming that is appreciated by a wide audience. RTL Nederland therefore fits well with DPG Media.”
Roddenhof notes that RTL Nederland and DPG Media face similar challenges in the changing television landscape with international streaming services. He believes that it is necessary to unite efforts.
The ACM has yet to give approval
DPG Media and RTL have agreed that RTL can keep its name. RTL Nederland and RTL Nieuws will come under CEO Sven Sauvé as a new division within DPG Media.
“By joining forces, we are creating a more complete media group that continues to fully invest in local, innovative, impactful content and independent journalism,” Sofi answers.
The proposed acquisition will be submitted to the relevant works councils for advice. The ACM must also approve the plan. Earlier this year, ACM halted a merger between RTL and Talpa. The combined company would then occupy a very strong position in the commercial media landscape.
ACM has now said it will carefully consider the planned acquisition. According to an ACM spokesperson, the takeover has yet to be formally submitted to the supervisory authority.
DPG is the publisher of, among others, NU.nl, advertisement, De Volkskrant, devotion And Hit Parole. Radio stations Qmusic and JOE are also originally under the Belgian media company. In Belgium, DPG is already a part owner of RTL Belgium.
