“There is already a script and a number of musical scores already completed. So this project has already come a long way,” he says. He also says that the return of an antisocial family to a residential area on TV is always possible. “Zonnedael is a kind of Duck Town. It doesn’t exist, but everyone immediately understands what the place is and who these people are. Plus, it’s about timeless themes, for example accepting strangers in your neighborhood.”

Maas also says that from time to time there are discussions about bringing back the series from the 1990s. “And then it all comes to nothing,” he says. “It seems to me to be self-evident, but everyone should know it for themselves.”

Shortly after recording the final two seasons, lead actor Koen van Vrijberg de Kooning died of a heart attack, bringing the success to a sudden end. “That was a terrible event,” Maas says. “We were actually thinking about a new season. One of the other main actors was actor Stefan de Wale, who took on the role of Brother Kees. He replied Veronica’s super guide Positive when asked if he sees a return. “I assume a whole new generation will be represented,” he says. “But they can always call me to guest star.”
