For Canadian ice hockey players, the Beijing Olympics are over. Nine-time Olympic champion Sweden lost in the quarterfinals: 2-0.

Canada’s defeat in the quarterfinals was not the only surprise. Because the American ice hockey players lost to Slovakia who won after the shoot-outs. After regular time and overtime, the score was 2-2. Slovakia captain Marek Hirvik equalized (2-2) 44 seconds before the end of regulation time.

Canada and the United States, like other teams in the Winter Games, play without the NHL’s big stars. The world’s most important ice hockey tournament has not stopped as many fights have been postponed due to the corona in recent months.

Slovakia, who clearly dominated Switzerland 5-1, face Finland in the semifinals. Sweden face Russia, who sent Denmark home (3-1).
