Colton Herta

Herta will also be in the picture with the American owner, as Andre appeared to be buying the Alfa Romeo. IndyCar is driving for the team of 21-year-old driver Michael Andrei and Formula 1 world champion Mario, who wants to see Herta on F1. It seemed like an easy amount, but the deal between Andrei and Alpha was canceled.

Yet Herta is still an interesting option for the Alfa Romeo. In 2015 and 2016 he already tried to move to Europe. He then drove to several championships in Europe, including the MSA Championship, in which he finished third in the finals. The winner of that championship is Lando Norris.

Despite finishing third at the Euroformula Open and second at the Spanish F3 Championships, Herta returns to the United States two years later. Before switching to IndyCar, he was impressed with two seasons at the Indy Light Championship. In the American class, he had already won his second race, and then wrote five more to his name.

Joseph Newgarden

When talking about American drivers, the name of Joseph Newgarden should also be discussed. Newgarden is not the youngest in the grid at the age of thirty, but he has already won the IndyCar Championship twice, finished second in the last two years, and also won the Indy Lights Championship in his youth.

Newgarden is considered one of the most popular drivers in the United States, but has never made a successful transition to Europe. He competed in the 2009 British Formula Ford Championship and scored once in his 2010 GP3 season. However, after failing to impress Carlin in Europe, he opted for Indie Lights, where he became champion in 2011.

With two Indigo titles in his name, Newgarden would be the best exhibit for American racing in Formula 1, but it remains to be seen if that is realistic. Newgarden are in their thirties and have no contact with European teams.

Like Crawford

In Formula 3, many American talents are currently trying to attract the attention of European teams. Jack Crawford knows how to do it better. Crawford is only 16 years old but is already competing in the Formula 3 Championship with the support of Red Bull.

By 2020, Crawford had already switched to Formula Cars in Europe, where he had five wins and finished second at the ADAC Formula 4 Championship for Dutch van Amersford Racing. He competed in fourteen races in Italian Formula 4, where he managed to win two.

In 2021, switching to Formula 3 was even more difficult. He finished 13th with 45 points, but was on stage once. Crawford takes a while, but clearly has speed. At the Euro Formula Open Championships, he finished eighth in sixteen races in 2021, finishing third in the rankings despite not participating in two race weekends.

Logan Sergeant

The last driver on this list was Logan Sergeant. At the age of twenty, Sergeant is not the youngest competent in Formula 3, but Americans generally need some adjustment time. The Sergeant still gets that time from Williams. The British team announced during the US GB that they would include these talented people in the training program.

Sergeant has already won the British Formula 4, Formula Renault Eurocup and Formula 3 Championships, but so far no real progress. On behalf of Prema, the American almost missed out on the specified F3 title in 2020 after losing the last race. In 2021, he finished in Saros to further capture that title, but was a winner and did not finish seventh in the rankings.

However, it’s about the team you are in entry level classes and Saros, especially compared to Prema, is not the team that drives the most champions. With Williams’ support, the sergeant must hope to get a better spot in 2022 before using his last chance at Formula 1.
