“Queen Elizabeth was more than a monarch. She defined an era,” says US President Joe Biden, “a British woman of unparalleled dignity and courage who forged a fundamental alliance between England and America. Age 96. Deepened”.
Elizabeth met fourteen US presidents during her career. “The thoughts and prayers of people across the United States today are with the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in their grief,” Biden and his wife, Jill, said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences to the royal family.”
“In a world of constant change, he has been a steady presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who would never have known their country without him,” Biden continued. “By showing friendship and respect to newly independent nations around the world, he advanced the cause of freedom and fostered lasting bonds that helped strengthen the Commonwealth he loved so much as a community that promotes peace and shared values.”
