Countries like Canada, Germany, Finland, Russia, the Czech Republic and Sweden also had to miss their star players and the team topped the prelims because they had a lot of talent to beat the United States. This is what they did first. The team won all three group matches against Germany, China and Canada.

Hard Slovaks

Opponent Slovakia in the quarterfinals. The country finished third in the group with Finland and Sweden and qualified for the last eight through the interim round (4-0 beating Germany).

Nevertheless, the United States had a lot of problems with the harsh Slovaks. Craig Ramsay took the lead through a goal by Juraj Slafkovsky.

Then the Americans returned. Nick Abreu and Sam Hendz gave the team the lead again.

Extension

The final score was 2-1 until Ramsay brought in a fielder for a goal in the last minute. This had an immediate effect. Thanks to a goal from Marek Hirvik, Slovakia were forced to extend.

The decision was made in the shootout as neither team scored in extra time. It failed no less than seven consecutive attempts until Peter Sehlerik won and was crowned the hero of the Slovak nation. The winning team in the match between Sweden and Canada is waiting for the semifinals.

Another cheat

For American ice hockey players, elimination is another Olympic cheat. Almost every year the country ranks first, but things always go wrong. It was not until the 1960s and 1980s that the United States won gold. The team last advanced to the final in 2010. Then Canada was very strong at home 3-2.
