Barns sold pork cutlets as vegetable cutlets

Barns mistakenly sold pork cutlets as vegan cutlets. According to the supermarket chain, the error occurred due to an “error from one of our suppliers”.

The supermarket chain and the Dutch Consumer and Food Safety Authority announced the news today. About 220 packages of 500g Coop Schnitzel XXL Vegetable accidentally ended up with Pork Schnitzels XXL.

The meat came from supplier Promessa, who makes meat substitutes, but also processes meat. A Promisa spokesperson says it’s “human error” in the packaging of schnitzel. “This has never happened before. It scares you too. It’s really bad for vegetarians. So our sincere apologies.”

No problems with quality

About sixty of these were sold packages with schnitzels inside, and Coop can’t say where this happened. The rest have been removed from stores. “There are no issues with quality or food safety, but the product in this package is not vegan and contains pork,” the supermarket chain said on its website.

It comes with XXL Vegan Chips that can be stored until January 15-16 and have the barcode 8713526837983. Consumers can return the product and get their money back.
