Two children were killed in a truck accident in the center of Antwerp on Tuesday morning. The two children, a 9-year-old girl and her one-and-a-half-year-old brother, crossed the road with a motorbike and were arrested at the zebra crossing.
“I heard a huge scream around 9:15 am. It already went through the marrow,” said an eyewitness who lived near the scene. “We saw right away how serious the situation was.” Emergency services were from Sint-Vincentius Hospital, 100 meters away, On site very quickly, but all the help came too late.Police confirmed it was a 9-year-old girl and her 1.5-year-old brother.

The children were going with their mother to a day camp organized at the school on the street. Police are also at the scene and provide assistance to the victims.
The intersection where the accident occurred will likely remain closed for a long time for investigation. The truck in question is still at the scene. The truck driver was taken to hospital in shock.
According to local residents, the truck was supposed to come from the street and at the same time the green light for pedestrians was on the zebra crossing. He turned to the left and probably did not see the children. A traffic expert will investigate the exact circumstances.
