Developers release a beta version of the Switch emulator that does not contain piracy – Games – News

A group of developers has released the first beta version of suyu. This is a Switch emulator based on Yuzu. The team has modified the emulator’s source code so that users now have to provide their own encryption and firmware keys.

Shows the change log for suyu v.0.0.2 That the developers removed all references to Yuzu. It is also said that some bugs have been fixed and new UI elements have been added to the Switch emulator. The developers also reported that they are working on a macOS version of suyu and have released a first beta for this operating system. The changelog also shows that Switch encryption keys and firmware are no longer included. From now on, users will have to provide this themselves, for example via their Switch console.

The developer group announced earlier this month that it would create a Nintendo Switch emulator without wanting to file a lawsuit against Nintendo. They have stated that they will call their simulation software “suyu” and believe it is a “continuation” of Yuzu’s software. The developers say they have a passion for Switch emulators and said they thought it would be a shame to waste the Yuzu team’s years of work. To avoid legal problems, the team also sought advice from “someone with a legal background.” The creators stress on their websites and Discord server that suyu is not intended for piracy and that discussing piracy is not allowed on these platforms.

Yuzu was a Nintendo Switch emulator from gaming company Tropic Haze. The emulator made news last month after it became known that Nintendo wanted to sue the game’s makers. Nintendo wanted to remove Yuzu from offline mode because the emulator would facilitate widespread piracy. The makers of Yuzu announced in early March that they had reached a settlement with Nintendo worth $2.4 million. Tropic Haze also announced that Yuzu will be taken off the air.
