Well, you’re right to point out the price (I only paid €30 for the game myself, I forget the price). 50€ is also too high in my opinion and I’m still thinking about the prices of the CS:1 version.
My question then is, what is so bad about it that you don’t want to try it? Or because they released it too early and it actually became a matter of principle? (It’s an honest question, I’d like to know what people think is so bad about it.)
I really think you’re right, but we’re talking about a niche market that’s almost dead already. It would be a mortal sin if it was completely over, and lack of sales is not a motivation to continue with the genre (which is also why I say people should give it a chance, if that opportunity is only a year away, that’s okay too). The Witcher 3 was also a bad game upon release, as was No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk, etc. These games have now become either good games or even classics.
I would actually say the same thing with other games (god, we had a lot of bad games). But again, this is not entirely the fault of the developers, the fact that games are released in such a state is mainly related to deadlines and contributors.
You may remember Blizzard from back in the day, where they didn’t release games until they were finished. This is no longer the case either, because…..shareholders. As much as I wish people would wake up and stop blindly pre-ordering and such, you know as well as I do that this is just a fantasy in 2024. And even if half of them stop doing it, there’s always the other half who will continue to buy it.
Don’t blame them either, because where you used to only profit from initial sales and maybe an expansion, they can now profit from DLC, battle passes, and cosmetic items. I also hope we get really good games again (by the way, I think BG3 is a really good game), but let’s be honest, I think the majority of the gaming industry has been ruined for a long time.
There are still gems out there (such as Anno 1800 and Baldurs Gate 3), but nowadays the vast majority of them are recycled at a very high price. Forza is a fun game, but after sharing so much of it, it becomes the same thing, and that’s unfortunately true of many games.
CS:1 is a great game, but I’d rather they keep innovating than sticking with an old game. I thought WoW was a great game, but I would have preferred if they made WoW2 with a modern engine and new gameplay after the expansion.
