The US Department of Transportation (DOT) fined KLM more than one million dollars, the equivalent of one million euros.

The airline took a long time to compensate passengers for delayed and canceled flights during the Corona crisis. Apart from KLM, two other airlines have to pay fines. “Today, the US Department of Transportation announced actions against Lufthansa, South African Airways and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for serious delays in issuing refunds to passengers,” it announced Monday.

Lufthansa is responsible for nearly $775 million in refunds. Airlines like KLM received a $1.1 million fine. KLM owes $113.3 million in restitution. As for the South African company, it pays 15.2 million dollars in restitution and 300 thousand dollars in fines. “Most of the fines imposed will be collected in the form of payments to the US Department of the Treasury, and the remainder will be credited against the passenger allowance,” the DOT explained.
