Dutch hockey players avoided a rare loss on Tuesday in their Pro League match against the United States. In London, after a very rough start, they won 2-3.
Surprisingly, the Netherlands trailed 2-0 midway through the third quarter. The U.S. opened the scoring in the first quarter through Abigail Tamer, before the Netherlands squandered an equalizer. Megan Rodgers took advantage of the space provided from the switch to make it 2-0.
The face of national coach Paul van Oss thundered by the minute, until Jusje Burk scored two goals in three minutes. He made it 2-1 with a penalty corner in the 38th minute, and three minutes later it was scored again for Den Bosch to attack: 2-2.
Burke’s goals prevented a first defeat since June 4, 2022 (3-1 v England). Renee van Laerhoven completed the comeback from a penalty corner five minutes before the end with a third Dutch goal.
The Netherlands are unbeaten since their defeat against England a year ago. The Dutch played out a 3-3 draw against Australia earlier this month, after which Australia dominated the shoot-outs for the bonus point. However, that game will go down in the books as a draw.
The Netherlands continue their Pro League against Germany on Friday. The defending world champion nation is ranked third in the tournament. Australia and Argentina, who are ranked first and second respectively, have now played the most matches.
Top drie Pro League
