This is how you can get the most out of Google Keep

Except for a few brands, most Android smartphones and tablets have Google Keep installed by default. The note taking app is packed with useful features that can come in handy on a daily basis. We’ve listed our favorites for you, so you can get more out of Google Keep.

1. Save text online

Of course you can take your own notes in Google Keep, but saving texts on websites is also very easy. Open a website of your choice and select the text by long pressing on it. Then tap Share and scroll until you see Keep.

When you click this, a pop-up window will appear containing the text you just copied. Above you can give the memo a title. The web page link is at the bottom of the screen. This way you always know where the text is coming from. Useful if you want to save sources for a research or research paper, but also to save recipes.

2. Transcribe voice memos to text

Of course you can text, but maybe you prefer to speak. Fortunately, Keep has an easy-to-use copy function. It works like this: Create a note and tap the plus sign at the bottom of the screen. Select “Record” and once the pop-up appears, you can start speaking. I finish? Then stop talking and the app will automatically put your story in the note.

Punctuation is not a powerful Keep tool, so don’t use the tool in your thesis or research. The original audio recording also appears below the transcript, so you can easily correct any errors.

3. Notifications on the Site

Do you have a shopping list or reminder for yourself that you’re afraid to forget? Then you can set a reminder for this. This can be done at a specific time, for example a specific time, but it is more useful to add a location. This means that you will receive a notification as soon as you arrive at the supermarket or at work, for example.

Open the application and select the note by long pressing on it, then pressing the bell at the top of the screen. A pop-up window will now appear where you can set the notification time. Click Place here and select Home, Work, or the location of your choice. Save the place and you’ll be notified when you get there.

4. Copy text from images

Are you more interested in taking notes in writing, but still want to take your notes digitally? Then you can extract text from images. To do this, open a note and add a photo via the plus sign at the bottom left. Select your photo, wait for it to load and click on it again.

Then select the three dots at the top right of the screen and click “Get Image Text”. The app will now scan your photo and paste the text into your note. Note: The feature works a little better via the Google Keep web app. Should the app on your smartphone or tablet not recognize your handwriting (as it does with ours)? Then try it via your browser.

5. Explanations on the pictures

What can also be useful is adding images to your notes. You can do this – just like with the previous tip – via the plus sign in the note. If you click on the image again, you will also see a brush at the top right of the screen. By clicking this, you can draw, highlight, and create frames on your photo, if you really want to illustrate something.

6. Pin notes

Do you have notes that you don’t want to lose among all your other notes? Or do you need to remind yourself to look at these notes? Then it is better to secure them. Tap and hold the note on the Google Keep home screen or open it. Then select the pin at the top of the screen. The note is now pinned and appears above other notes on the app’s home screen.

6 b. Convert pinned notes into widget

Then one extra tip. Do you still have that note pinned? Then go to your phone’s home screen and long press on the screen. Click “Tools” in the pop-up menu and go to Google Keep Notes.

Then select Notes Collection and drag it to your home screen. Now choose whether you want to see all pinned notes or just them. Useful, because now you are reminded of your important notes more easily.
