Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple is working on AirPods Pro with infrared sensors – Image and Sound – News

I find what you’re saying interesting. Why don’t you buy AirPods anymore when you add IR function?

I always find it difficult to put this into words very concretely; It’s more of a gut feeling than a concrete reason. Some people think I’m exaggerating or exaggerating, but I think they’re naive.

Over the years, I’ve seen many companies where malicious parties entered through a backdoor, user data was leaked, cameras were monitored in real time (especially security cameras), etc.

This type of infrared can be used very well as a “camera”. Apple probably has a good explanation for why everything stays on your phone and can’t be accessed from the outside or stored in its own data centers… but how many times have we heard something like this before that turns out to not be as waterproof as suggested?

Of course you can then say, “Yes, but your phone already has it.” That’s true, and I grudgingly accept it because I can at least put the phone in my dark pocket or hide the camera, etc. With these types of earbuds, it’s much more difficult and it’s not unusual for me to be able to have them on almost all day.

I don’t like the idea of wearing something on my head that can constantly “watch with me.” Especially given the developments in artificial intelligence, which can do a lot with data if collected. For example, just see what could be done with simple WiFi signals if they used AI on them: YouTube: Artificial Intelligence generates dreams and turns Wi-Fi routers into cameras to see… (from 1 minute into the video)

In general, I can’t explain it concretely, but technology and artificial intelligence are currently moving so quickly that I have become very careful about what I do and do not allow in my life.
