According to Eurogamer, the Meta will stop supporting the original Oculus Quest hardware on August 31st. The VR headset will not receive updates or bug fixes as of that date. The company has not officially announced the news yet.

Eurogamer editors were able to view an email allegedly sent by Meta to users of the original Quest. He Said It said I read that data on the device could be compromised if security vulnerabilities in the software are discovered in the future. After August 31, users will still be able to download apps from the Quest Store and use existing apps.

Meta already had this earlier this year. Announce It will no longer develop new software for the Oculus Quest, also known as Meta Quest 1. Developers will also no longer be able to add new apps for VR headsets to the Meta Store as of April 30, 2024.

The Oculus Quest was released in 2019. It is a standalone VR headset powered by a Qualcomm 835 processor and 4GB of RAM. The Oculus Quest comes with two pentagonal OLED displays with a resolution of 1440 x 1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 72Hz. The headset can also be connected to a computer, both wirelessly and wired.
