Honor Launches China’s Thinnest Foldable Phone Yet – Tablets & Phones – News

Chinese smartphone brand Honor has announced the Honor Magic V3 and Vs3. The former is the thinnest foldable smartphone to date. The Magic V3 measures 4.4mm thick when unfolded and 9.2mm when closed. The devices are exclusive to China for now.

Many foldable phones are between 11 and 16mm thick when closed, but the Honor Magic V3 is closer to a regular smartphone. It also weighs 226g, which is roughly the same as larger smartphones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Magic V3 is 15.6cm tall and 7.4cm wide when folded, just like its predecessor.

The displays are the same as the Honor Magic V2. This is a 7.92-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2344 x 2156 pixels on the inside and a 6.43-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2376 x 1060 pixels on the outside. The peak brightness of the former is 1800 nits/m2 and the latter is 2500 nits/m2. Both displays have a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz.

The Magic V3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, up to 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. The primary camera has a 50MP sensor, while the ultra-wide camera has a 40MP sensor, and there’s a 50MP periscope telephoto lens that can zoom up to 3.5x optically. The front cameras on both displays have a 20MP sensor.

The battery has According to the manufacturer Higher capacity than its predecessor: 5,150 mAh instead of 5,000 mAh. The smartphone supports 66W fast charging and can charge wirelessly at 50W. The Honor V3 runs MagicOS 8.0.1, which is Android 14, and is IPX8 certified, which means the phone is water resistant up to 1 meter.

The Magic Vs3 is a cheaper version of the V3. The black color variant measures 9.8mm thick when closed and 4.7mm when unfolded. That makes it as thin as last year’s Honor Magic V2, which was known at the time as the world’s thinnest foldable phone. The other color variants of the Vs3 are 3mm thicker. The phone also has the same OLED displays as its pricier sibling, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and the same amount of RAM and storage. Other differences are an 8MP telephoto camera with 5x zoom, a 16MP selfie camera, and a smaller 5,000mAh battery. Unlike the V3, the cheaper model doesn’t have an IP rating.

The Honor Magic V3 and Vs3 will initially be released only in China and will cost 1,137 and 884 euros respectively. The Honor Magic V2 was also released in China just a year ago, but it became available in Europe last January. The manufacturer is not officially active in the Netherlands and Belgium, but there are often web stores selling devices imported from Germany. Honor has already announced that the Magic V3 and Vs3 will also be released outside China this year.
