Denver Nuggets first-round pick Darron Holmes II is likely to miss next season.

The first season of Daron Holmes II is likely over before it even begins.

Holmes was selected 22nd overall by the Suns and traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he suffered a torn Achilles tendon and is expected to miss the entire 2024-25 season, according to reports.

The 6-foot-9 former Dayton star was injured during the Nuggets’ first game of the Las Vegas Summer League.

He is said to have left the scene on crutches.

“He’s obviously new here,” said Julian Strother, the Nuggets’ first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He told reporters after the match:“But he brings a very positive energy.”

Holmes was playing defense against the Clippers under the basket, leaving his feet to defend a jump pass before landing awkwardly on his right leg.

Holmes was expected to play a big role as a backup forward for the Denver Nuggets as they seek to return to the NBA Finals after losing to the Timberwolves in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals last season.

The Denver Nuggets ranked 25th in the NBA in scoring off the bench last season.

Holmes had 11 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes before the injury.

He started all 33 games for Dayton as a junior and averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Holmes He said last week after training He said he was “excited” to play in the Las Vegas Summer League — and show off his prowess — with other Denver Nuggets players.

Dario Saric and Vlatko Cancar could play a bigger role for the Denver Nuggets without Holmes.
