American business owners used government funding to buy a Lamborghini, visit strip clubs, and get a $60,000 Pokemon card. This is evidenced by a document containing the most prominent illegal expenditures by entrepreneurs and issued by the Ministry of Justice.
The US government has launched a large-scale investigation into the misuse of Corona aid, which should have been spent only on maintaining businesses during the shutdowns.
The Small Business Administration (SBA), the government body that regulates aid, said it has donated an estimated $4.5 billion (3.8 billion euros) more than coronavirus aid without a hotline or spending monitoring. Washington Post. The prosecution of fraudsters will remain retroactive.
Among the fraudulent cases are a man who spent all the aid money on strip clubs and a person who bought a Lamborghini for $318,000 (about 274,000 euros). Perhaps the most notable of them is Vinath Odomsin, who spent two-thirds of the money he earned on one Pokemon card worth $57,789 (about 50,000 euros). In all three cases, the SBA should not provide support.
The SBA blames the Trump administration for allowing this massive fraud to occur. The government agency said in a statement that the Pokémon Card was “just one example of fraud that could have resulted from lax censorship under Donald Trump.”
Now, under President Joe Biden, more efforts are being put into anti-fraud measures to make things simpler, the Small Business Agency reported.
