Los Angeles 2028 Olympics Organizers Announce More Venues in Long Beach, Carson

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Organizers of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles are preparing for the big event by announcing more venues.

Eight events are scheduled to take place in downtown Los Angeles, with five sports scheduled to take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Long Beach will host seven sports, while Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson will host four sports.

“We will have approximately 10,500 Olympic athletes in Los Angeles in the summer of 2028 and approximately 6,000 Paralympic athletes, as well as a lot of fans, a lot of support staff, a lot of different stakeholders and people from all over the world,” said Janet Evans, chief athletics officer for Los Angeles. “This is coming and we are excited.”

Long Beach hosts the second most sporting events with a total of seven, including rowing, water polo and marathon swimming.

“This is our third time hosting the Olympics,” said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson. “In 1932, we hosted the Olympics, when Marine Stadium was built. In 1984, we hosted a number of events. This time, we will host more events than in 1932 and 1984, as well as revitalizing different parts of our city from Marine Stadium, Belmont Beach, the coast, and our aquatic events.”

City leaders say this is huge for Long Beach and the economy. The Olympics will bring a new wave of tourists and athletes to the area.

“When the fall comes, we’re going to see a lot of people moving to Long Beach,” said Long Beach City Councilwoman Christina Duggan. “We’re very fortunate. I feel very fortunate that the city of Long Beach has so much planning for LA28.”

“I think the people of Long Beach need encouragement. We’ve seen a lot of negative things happen in the city and this will be an opportunity to bring the community together,” said Long Beach resident Denise Fields.

In the coming months, organizers will announce additional venues as well as new sports added to the 2028 Olympic Games.
