Samsung launches Galaxy Watch 7, Watch Ultra, and new smart ring – Tablets & Phones – News

Samsung announced a slew of new wearables on Wednesday. In addition to the new Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, the company is also introducing a smart ring, though the latter won’t be coming to the Netherlands for now.

The Galaxy Watch 7 is a direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Watch 6. The watch will be available in 40mm and 44mm diameters, and both will be released as WiFi-only and 4G versions. In terms of appearance, the Watch 7 is largely identical to its predecessor. Hardware changes over the Watch 6 include an improved optical heart rate monitor, the addition of a dual-band GPS receiver, and Samsung’s new Exynos W1000 pentacore SoC. The Watch 7 features a 1.3- or 1.5-inch AMOLED display and a sapphire lens. The watches are water-resistant up to 50 meters.

The Galaxy Watch 7 runs on Google WearOS 5 with Samsung’s own OneUI 6. Samsung adds several new health features, including one Advanced Glycation End Products– Or the AGEs indicator, the new “power points” and the sleep apnea function, although the latter will not be available in the Netherlands for the time being. The Galaxy Watch 7 models are as expensive as their predecessors. This means that the recommended prices vary from 319 to 399 euros depending on the version.

Galaxy Watch Ultra

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is a completely new watch, with Samsung focusing on the higher price point and aiming to “give users a complete view of themselves.” The Watch Ultra is built on the same foundation as the Watch 7, but has a larger titanium case that should be water-resistant to 100 meters. Samsung also says the watch can handle extreme temperatures. Thanks to a larger 590mAh battery, Samsung claims up to 100 hours of battery life, although that’s in low-power mode.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra also gets a “Quick Button,” a third configurable button that can be used to, among other things, activate the watch’s built-in siren. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is available in one size with a 1.5-inch display and 4G. The watch has a suggested retail price of €699.

Both the Watch 7 and Watch Ultra can be pre-ordered starting Wednesday. Orders will then ship on July 19. Regular sales of the watches begin on July 24. Tweakers also wrote up a hands-on preview of the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra.

Galaxy Ring

Samsung is also introducing a smart ring, which will be called the Galaxy Ring, but it won’t be released in the Netherlands for now. The ring is equipped with sensors that measure heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and skin temperature. The company says the Galaxy Ring communicates with the Samsung Health app via Bluetooth and is designed for “24/7 health monitoring.” The device measures sleep, with Samsung claiming to use an AI algorithm to provide comprehensive sleep insights, including movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate, and breathing. Based on this, the software also calculates a sleep score.

Ring also supports the new Power Score for Galaxy Watches. The ring also continuously measures heart rate and steps and automatically recognizes different sports activities. On Galaxy smartphones, users can also take photos or silence an alarm with a double tap on the finger they wear the ring on.

The Galaxy Ring is made of titanium and will be available in nine different sizes. The ring is equipped with a “Nordic MCU” and a battery that ranges from 18 mAh to 23.5 mAh depending on the size. Samsung claims a battery life of up to seven days. It charges wirelessly using the included charging case, which contains its own 361 mAh battery. The Galaxy Ring will cost €449, but it won’t be shipped in the Netherlands initially.
