The United States and the United Kingdom launched strikes on eighteen Houthi rebel targets in Yemen on Saturday. The targets include storage facilities for missiles and other weapons, air defense systems, radars and helicopters, the Pentagon said.
With the attacks, the US and UK want to end Yemeni rebel operations against merchant shipping in the Red Sea. In a statement, they wrote that the Houthis have attacked such vessels more than 45 times since mid-November.
The Houthis are targeting the ships with missiles and drones. They say they attack ships that communicate with Israel. By their actions, the Houthis intend to support the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
After the attacks, a Houthi spokesman said the rebels attacked a US tanker in the Gulf of Aden off the Red Sea on Saturday night. This is about MV Dorm Thor.
UKMTO, the British government agency that coordinates shipping in the region, said X A ship may have been struck east of Djibouti in the Gulf of Aden. The service will not disclose additional details.
Recently, the Americans and the British have frequently fired at targets in Yemen. As in previous operations, support was provided by Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
