Ed Pearson, president of the Aviation Safety Foundation, has declined to fly Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737 MAX in 2023, the plane that lost a door early this year.
He was supposed to fly to New Jersey from Seattle. Thanks to the knowledge Pearson had gained during his years at Boeing, he was careful not to fly the plane. When Pearson, who lives in Seattle, boarded the plane in the US city, he noted that it might be the much-discussed plane. “I got on the plane and thought: This is brand new,” he said in an interview with the British newspaper “Daily Mail”. CNN.
Pearson wants to leave the 737 Max
As soon as he took his seat, he saw on the ticket containing the safety instructions that it was in fact a 737 MAX plane. “One of the flight attendants closed the front door. I said, ‘I wasn’t supposed to fly the Max.’ She said, ‘What do you know about the Max?’ “I said, ‘I can’t go into details right now, but I wasn’t planning on flying the Max and I wanted to get out,'” Pearson said. Eventually, the operations manager got out and started looking for another flight that didn’t use the 737 MAX. After deliberation, he was still able to board his flight to New Jersey after a day of sitting in the airport. The wait, he said, was “worth it.”
Suspicion of former employees
Several former Boeing employees have previously spoken about flying the 737 MAX. Joe Jacobsen, a former technician for the US aircraft manufacturer, said he would ask his family to avoid the Max. Jacobsen added that he would “really recommend it to everyone.”
