KDE has released Plasma Mobile 6 for mobile devices running postmarketOS. This is a port of the recently released Plasma 6 desktop environment. Not everything in the distro is working well yet, but the release is stable.

Desktop environment can be run postmarketOS, an open source operating system that can now run on dozens of phones, tablets and other devices, such as the PinePhone. Plasma Mobile 6 has, among other things, a new home screen with pages that can be individually customized using for example wallpapers or page transitions. The mobile GUI also has a new setup screen for users configuring the system for the first time, which can handle things like WiFi.
Furthermore, Plasma Mobile 6 has the same authentication windows as the desktop variant and it is possible to minimize or maximize applications. The settings menu has also been improved and the vibration and flashlight settings have been tweaked. The last two only worked on PinePhone in previous versions of Plasma Mobile, but in Plasma Mobile 6 they should work on all phones.
The distribution gets many new applications and changes have been added to the existing applications. The Photos app is now called Photos, and alarms now override other media.
The developers say that not everything is working properly yet. The only widgets available are the widgets that are also included in the desktop variant. Moreover, not all of them work equally well. Gesture control is not working yet and the app switcher is still slow.
KDE Plasma 6 is a major release in itself. The desktop environment was finally released last week.
