Sean Payton won't be comfortable using the position player as his new starting kicker

As the Chiefs consider letting Justin Reed handle the kickoffs in order to keep kicker Harrison Butker out of the hot kitchen to make tackles, one contender is considering the downside of such an approach.

“I don’t want one in four to reach the age of 40.”[yard line] “Even though he’s out of bounds, he’s there to make the tackle,” Broncos coach Sean Payton told reporters Thursday. “I think you’ll see a lot of change in all of us. I’m as eager as you to see it. We’re trying to get through it.”

The most inconsistent aspect of the rule would still be that 19 or 20 players remain stationary after the kick and until it is caught or touches the ground.

“[Special teams coordinator] son [Kotwica]“We are our special teams coaches, we practice for that,” Payton said. “We had the officials yesterday. They kind of went through all the rule changes, but we specifically spent half an hour on this. I would tell you one thing – the kick is taken, no one moves, and when it’s taken, we all move. I would like to I’m at second base and I’m tagging, I’m watching, I’m watching, and when the ball is caught, I can go to third so you’ll see if I leave early, it’s going to be very similar to now There was a time when most of these guys were playing baseball Now maybe a third of these guys have played baseball I would say, “You’ve never tagged a fly ball?”, but I think that’s what it’s going to be in terms of timing while you’re waiting to make a move.

Whatever happens, Payton is among those who believe the approach will change as the year goes on.

“In the first year of this, what you see in Week 1 and what you see in Week 8 could be dramatically different,” Payton said. “Now, this will be the first year where there are – follow me – three scenarios of a kick that might not be returned where the ball could go into the 20-[yard line]Thirty or forty. Now in the history of our game there have always been only two scenarios. We always knew 40 was over the top. Then we went through 20 and then 25 [on touchbacks]. Now there are three, so it will take everyone some time to figure it out. So I think a lot of it will depend on what our goal is structurally in terms of putting him in the relegation zone, and who that player is that we’re talking about. If you have this player, then yes, this is a good idea.

This will be the key. Who kicks the ball and who serves it?

“Whoever can catch it can change it,” Payton said. “The decision makers when those balls come in — let’s say line drives — they make the decision, ‘Are they going to go into the end zone?'”

It all adds up to spending more time in training camp and during the week of practice playing games. Because it suddenly became both relevant and new.
