Software Update: Media Player Classic – Home Cinema 2.1.3 – PC – Downloads

So far I only use VLC. What am I missing that would make me want to install MPC on my computer? I’ve been using it for a few decades (oh my god, I’m getting old :X ), but I didn’t really follow the development…

release:
I just looked on GitHub to see what they are touting as cool new features compared to the official “old” MPC.

Dark interface
Options > Launcher > Theme
When using the modern theme, it is also possible to change the height of the search bar and the size of the toolbar buttons.
Options > Advanced > Default Toolbar Size
Preview video on search bar
Options > Adjustments > Show preview on search bar
HDR video playback
This requires the use of MPC Video Renderer or madVR.
After installation, these renderers can be selected here:
Options > Playback > Output
Tip: If you want a comprehensive, easy-to-use package containing the MPC-HC and these monitors, use the K-Lite Codec Pack.
Adjust playback speed
Menu > Play > Playback Rate
The buttons on the player that control the playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized for smaller values (such as 10%):
Options > Playback > Speed step
Adjusting the playback speed works best with the SaneAR Audio Projector. This also has automatic pitch correction.
Options > Playback > Output > Audio Display Device
MPC-HC can remember the playback position, so you can resume from that point later
Options > Player > History
You can quickly search through a video using Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel.
You can move to the next/previous file in the folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown.
You can perform automatic actions at the end of the file. For example, to go to the next file or close the player.
Options > Power on > After power on (permanent setting)
Menu > Play > After Play (for current file only)
Repeat AB
You can repeat part of the video. He presses [ and ] To set start and stop marks.
You can rotate/flip/reverse/stretch/zoom the video
Menu > View > Pan and Scan
This is also easily done using hotkeys (see below).
There are plenty of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. Can be customized as well.
Options > Launcher > Keys
Tip: There is a search box at the top of the table.
You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video sites
Place yt-dlp.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder.
Next, you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL
You can also download these videos: Menu > File > Save a copy
Tip: To be able to download in the best quality using yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is also recommended to place ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder.
Here you can find several YDL configuration options: Options > Advanced
This includes an option to specify the location of the exe file. In case you don’t want to put it in MPC-HC folder.
Note 1: Instead of yt-dlp.exe, you can also use youtube-dl.exe. However, I recommend using yt-dlp because it works better and has active development, while youtube-dl development is currently inactive.
Note 2: You also need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
Note 3: Nightly version of yt-dlp (latest version released daily)
Ability to search and download translations, either automatically or manually (press D):
Options > Translations > Miscellaneous
Besides all these (new) features, there are also many bug fixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years which give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Added support for CUE sheets, WebVTT translations, etc.
