The Rangers completed the sweep eliminating the Orioles and Astros within one win of the ALCS
Adolis García and the Rangers knocked off the top-seeded Orioles with a clean sweep to reach the ALCS.

The MLB Postseason saw its first major upset on Tuesday.

All four American League teams were in contention, but it was the Baltimore Orioles who needed a win the most. Too bad they didn’t show up

The Texas Rangers beat the Orioles 7-1 to complete the three-game sweep and secure their spot in the ALCS for the first time since 2011. It was the first time the Orioles were swept in any series this season, and it marked their first 100-plus win season. For more than 40 years. The Rangers are the first team in the playoffs to finish a divisional round series.

The Rangers offense was relentless in Games 1 and 2 against the Orioles. Game 3 started with more of the same, as the Rangers got on the board immediately in the first inning.

This was the second half when the game got away from Baltimore. Mitch Garver hit an RBI double to start the scoring, then Adolis García drilled a deep three-run home run that capped off a perfect bat flip. In this way, the Rangers were ahead 6-0.

Nathaniel Lowe hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to preserve the Rangers’ six-run lead after Gunnar Henderson hit an RBI single in the inning before finally putting Baltimore on the board. From there, the Rangers cruised to the ALCS for the first time since back-to-back World Series runs in 2010 and 2011.

The Rangers will face either the Astros or the Twins starting Sunday in Game 1.

Javier and Abreu pull the Astros within one win of the ALCS

The Astros scored early — and this cannot be stressed enough — often in their 9-1 win over the Twins on Tuesday at Target Field. Seven of Houston’s nine runs in Game 3 were scored via the long ball.

Jose Abreu got the party started early with a homer in the first inning to give the Astros a 4-0 lead. Alex Bregman hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning, Yordan Alvarez homered to right field in the ninth, and then Abreu hit his second home run of the afternoon to round out Houston’s scoring.

All six of Alvarez’s hits in this series were for extra bases. He hit three homers between Games 1 and 2, then added two doubles and a home run in Game 3.

Cristian Javier held the Twins’ bats with one hit — Max Kepler’s double in the first — in the first five innings. The pitcher recorded nine strikeouts and pitched himself out of jams in the first, third and fifth innings to hold the Twins scoreless. Houston can clinch the series and move on to the ALCS with a win Wednesday in Game 4.
